What's on in Lille
Lille runs on seasons. Winter belongs to the Christmas Village and the Ferris wheel; on the first weekend of September the whole city turns into a giant flea market. In between, a handful of quieter events worth catching if your timing is right.

The Christmas market and the Ferris wheel
Ninety wooden chalets on Place Rihour, a fifty-metre wheel on the Grand'Place, and six weeks of a fully lit city centre. Lille's biggest annual event by visitor numbers.
The rest of the year
The funfair, la Foire aux manèges
The largest funfair in northern France takes over the Champ de Mars esplanade at the foot of the Citadelle. Free entry, paid rides, and an atmosphere that owes nothing to tourism: people here have been going since childhood.
Lille Street Food Festival
Four days of street food in a red-brick former spinning mill, with around fifty stalls and chefs from across the metropolis. Free entry, cashless payment, and enough variety to try a dozen things in one evening.
Bière à Lille beer festival (the BAL)
A week of tastings in bars across the metropolis, mostly free to attend, followed by a closing weekend that brings nearly seventy breweries together under the glass roof of the Gare Saint-Sauveur.
La Braderie de Lille
